00:00 I don’t care if the gurus are doing it, or if they’re telling you to do it, I don’t care if your mentor is, I don’t care who’s doing it, or who says what. Okay? Right is still right, and wrong is still wrong. Alright? Truth doesn’t change just because somebody else is doing it. And, I think that we need to live by that, and understand that. And I think if we can get this… this one thing right, just this one thing, then we can truly change the world for the better, and make a positive impact, and start to turn our world around. We gotta lead by example, which is why I’m sharing this.
00:28 You are now entering a new paradigm. So, here’s my issue. I wanted to find the answers to life’s biggest questions. Things like, how do I become happy and live with purpose? How do I make more money doing what I love, and what does it mean to be truly successful in all areas of life? My name is Josh Forti, @JoshForti on Instagram, and I ask life’s biggest questions and share the answers with you. My goal is to help you find purpose, happiness, and open your mind to new realms of possibility by helping you think differently about everything you do, know, and understand. On this podcast, we think different, we dream bigger, and we live in a world without limits. This is a new paradigm. Welcome to The Think Different Theory.
01:15 What’s up guys? Welcome back to another episode of The Think Different Theory. My name is Josh Forti, and, I am so fired up right now guys. It is… I was going to say Superbowl Sunday, but it’s Kickoff Sunday, for the NFL. I am stoked. I am getting ready to watch my New England Patriots, and Tom Brady play against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and we’ll see what happens. I hope that the… the Patriots just mop the floor with the Steelers, but we will see. And, as you guys know, I’m… I’m just a huge patriots fan. I’m a huge Tom Brady fan. I’m in my Tom Brady Jersey right now. I went to the AFC championship game, fifth row last year, versus the Kansas City chiefs, where we went to the Superbowl and won. So I… I’m a huge football fan. I’m a huge Patriots fan, specifically, and I want to be more specific.
02:00 I’m more of a Patriots fan, than a football fan, and a Tom Brady fan, than a football fan. I’m more of a Tom Brady fan than anything else, and once he leaves the league, I will probably watch significantly less, but I will still forever and always be a New England Patriots fan. I am not a fair weather fan, and in fact a lot of people tell me that, ”Oh Josh, the only reason you root for the Patriots is because they win.” And I tell them, ”Yes, but I’m also a Los Angeles Lakers fan, and we suck right now, even with Lebron James, we’re still pretty terrible.” So, we’ll see. I’ve been a Los Angeles Lakers fan my whole life, I’ve been a New England Patriots fan my whole life. I’m not a fair weather fan at all, but I’m super excited to kick off. I want Tom Brady to win the seventh ring, of course. We got Antonio Brown now, which, you know, I want to go on record to say, I’m stoked that he’s now a patriot. However, I don’t actually think he’s gonna make it that long. I have my doubts as to whether or not he’s going to be able to shape up, cause you don’t… that Bill Belichick is not gonna take any of his crap. Alright? At all. And, he’s going to have to shape up a lot. He has a crazy story on how he got there, but… I’m super pumped. I don’t know if Antonio Brown is gonna make it the whole season. My prediction is like four or five games, and then he’ll be out, and, if he lasts longer than that, then he’s probably good, but we’ll see. I also, am not 100% entirely convinced, that the Patriots will win tonight against the Steelers.
03:15 In fact, part of me is almost like waiting for the Steelers to win, by like, you know, 10 or 17 points or something like that, and have, all the headlines be, ”Brady’s done, Brady’s over, Patriots dynasty’s falling”, yada, yada, all that. But, we’ll see, we’ll see. I mean, we’ve heard it so many times before, but, anyway, I say all this, which by the way, welcome back to the program. Thank you so much for tuning in. If you have not subscribed yet, make sure to subscribe, and, turn on… actually I don’t know if you can turn on notifications on iTunes, but, leave a rating and leave a review. The reason I tell you this, is number one, I’m pumped about… I’m pumped about football, and I love the Patriots, and I know this is coming out significantly after, probably even week two of the NFL.
03:55 So, batching out. But, the reason I tell you all this is because the Patriots, specifically Tom Brady is someone that has received a lot of hate over his career. If you haven’t noticed, people call him, you know, overrated and they call him a cheater and they call them like all these things. He’s been involved in different things and whatnot. And you know, personally, I, I wasn’t old enough or informed enough to know what happened with, um, with spy gate and everything back then. So I don’t want to make an informed decision. I think there was probably something that went on there. Um, perhaps, but, uh, I’m not sure, but with deflate gate, I think it’s a bunch of absolute bogus crap. And if you literally look at any statistics or any physicists that knows anything about football, like it is literally the most bogus, ridiculous, stupid thing and on the face of the planet.
04:40 And if you think deflate gate was actually a real thing, or you think that Tom Brady is not going to be Tom Brady because of some deflated balls, you’re absolutely out of your freaking mind and you can just, you know, go watch Tom Brady winning another Superbowl. So that’s my opinion on that. And I do not apologize for that. I think that Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time. And you know, no, I don’t think that that is a scientifically and unarguable fact by a pretty much anyone that watches the NFL. Can you tell I’m passionate about this. But anyway, back to my point guys. I’m Tom Brady’s received a lot of heat, a lot of criticism. And what’s interesting is how focused he has been throughout the entire process and how he’s responded to it. And I think it’s something that we can all learn from, especially in the entrepreneurship space and, uh, you know, in the online marketing space and, and things of that nature when it comes to hatred.
05:24 And when it comes to, um, you know, like how people respond to controversy and you know, how you respond to people with, uh, you know, with everything. And one of the, my favorite lines by Tom Brady was in the super bowl or before the super bowl last year. He went and he, um, he was doing a press conference or he was at the, I don’t know, it was like Superbowl week. And he’s hanging out with his, you know, his daughter. And, um, they were talking to him about the haters and he’s like, what do we say about the haters? And then, you know, everyone’s, you know, going back and forth and he goes, we love, we love them, we love the haters. And, um, it was just this crazy moment for up for him where I was like, wow, here’s a guy that’s been through a lot of hate, a lot of criticism or whatever.
06:06 And the way he responds to haters, the way he responds to critics, Tom Brady could easily, I mean, if there’s anybody in all sports ever that has the ability to basically, you know, flip the middle finger and tell everybody to just, you know, screw off because I’m the greatest, it would be Tom Brady, right? Like the dudes bender nine Superbowls, one six. He’s, you know, single handedly run two Superbowls more. Well, not suited singlehandedly, but he himself has one, two more Superbowls in any team. Um, you know, it’s just this crazy, crazy fee or than any, uh, than any other quarterback. I apologies. I saw like, you know, here’s a guy that has the ability to go and do that. Yet he treats people, he treats his haters with respect. And, you know, I think that this isn’t a super important lesson because, you know, we as entrepreneurs, um, we get a lot of hate sometimes or we can, and a lot of entrepreneurs or I don’t even want sound the preneurs like successful people as a whole.
06:53 And even if you’re not an entrepreneur, you’re probably going to face this at some point in your life where you’re gonna have haters. You’re going to have people that don’t like you. And you know, oftentimes there are, there’s not a reason for them not to, like you oftentimes they don’t like you for for no reason whatsoever. And, um, how we respond to that I think shows a lot about our character and shows a lot about who you know, who you are as a person. And, um, I think that, and I apologize, I’m a, I’m a little stuffy, a little sick today. I’m getting over some sickness. Actually, I might be coming down with something now anyway. Um, one of the things that I was always taught by my parents and I want to give them major credit for this, is that you treat everybody with respect.
07:28 You treat the people that love you with respect, you treat the people that hey you with respect and you do not retaliate. Uh, just because you know somebody else does something rude to you or mean to you. There’s a verse in the Bible that says, do not return evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving blessing instead. And I try to live by that as much as I can. And, um, you know, I’m someone that, you know, a fairly decent following on social media and so I do get hate sometimes and, uh, in fact, I want to read you an email that I got recently here that, uh, kind of reminded me of this whole thing and how I responded to it. But I want to preface this by saying I get a lot of these emails. I get a lot of hate-filled emails.
08:02 A lot of people that don’t really like me or you know, they and every marketer, anybody that’s ever done email marketing understands and has been through this, they’ve gotten these hater emails and whatnot. And I’m choosing to read you this one. Not to like be like, oh look at how great I am. Or Oh like, you know, I handle everything so perfectly because I don’t, but I, I, I’m reading you this to bring context around how, you know, most people re spawn versus how I believe you should respond than how I believe you should treat people. So once again, I want to clarify, this is not to say how great I am. I do not want you to be like, Oh yeah, you’re amazing Josh. Look how good you are. Like that’s not what I’m trying to do here because I do get a lot of these emails and I respond to pretty much every one of them.
08:42 And I tried to respond to every single one of them in a similar way as this. And I’m not over here trying to tote that or like, you know, be like, I’m so great. But I do think that is important to lead by example. And there’s no way that people can see this unless you know, you do put it out there and you do share it because you know, I’ve been told many, many times by you know, people you know to screw the haters, f the haters do this, do that. And it’s one of those things where you know you’re returning like your putting negative energy out into the world when you do that and like they’re putting negative energy out towards you. So yeah, you can be like, oh well they started it but you’re not really better when you retaliate back. You’re not really doing know, you’re not taking the higher ground and you know, you’ve put out just as much negative energy in the world when your negative back to towards someone this negative as they did.
09:27 So really you’re no better than they are. And so how you respond I think is very, very important. And you know, for me, I grew up learning these things and I grew up with parents that taught me this when I got out into the real world and I realized that this is really not common, that a lot of people don’t do this. That is a very common for people to go out there and be really rude. It’s really common for people to go out there and retaliate back. And what’s crazy to me is that you know that people do take the time out of their day to be hateful in the first place. But once again, you know, you have to remember that when somebody goes and says something about you and when someone goes and talks negative and is angry towards something, it is a direct reflection on them.
10:07 It is not a direct reflection on you because um, you know, there’s a saying that says, you know, someone can only see something in you if they have it in themselves first. And I’m going to repeat that because I think it’s very powerful. Someone can only see something in you if they have it in themselves first. So if someone is struggling or if someone you know, sees anger and hatred and you know, he’s just very, very, you know, trying to tear you down, it’s because that’s what’s inside them and it’s because you know, they need to go and they’re struggling with that and they need to fix that in themselves first. And it sucks because you know, when you realize that it’s really hard to be mad back at people. And whenever I see people that are mad at me, whenever I see people that are just, you know, filled with hatred and anger, the first thing that my mind goes to is that is I’m like, oh my gosh, this person is putting out anger.
10:52 This person is putting out, you know, just very rude or negative things into the world. That means that they themselves are inside a negative person or struggling with negativity. And like, I don’t wish that on anybody, you know? And so, you know, if you do that and you understand that they’re coming from a place of pain, they might not even realize it. And if you ask them, they might not even say that they are, but simply the fact that they took the time out of their day to go and be negative and be rude towards you, you can tell that they’re hurting. And I read a post one time by a friend of mine, her name is Hannah Denda. She’s like, sometimes it’s really hard to be mad at people when you understand or be mad back at people when they’re rude to you. When you understand that whatever’s causing them to do that is causing them a lot of pain.
11:33 And it’s true. And so the way I always like to look at things when people are mean to me, when people are rude to me, when people you know, send crazy rude emails, which I’m gonna, you know, I’m gonna read one, I’m not too crazy rude. Um, but like I get, I mean, I’ve gotten emails that tell me to go f myself to go to hell to die, um, that I’m a scam artist, that, you know, I’ll never make it. Like, I mean, I’ve gotten some really crazy things out there. And it’s funny to me because, no, I’ve never, I, I post this the other day, I’ve never been criticized by someone that’s doing more than I am. In fact, the people that are, are successful, the people that have made it and are really, truly successful in life, like they’re encouraging people and if they disagree with something that someone is doing, they offer advice, they offer help.
12:15 Now that’s always what I’ve tried to do is whenever I see someone that’s doing something that, you know, I feel obligated enough or strongly enough to comment on something, I state my opinion. But I always offer advice and I always do it from a place of love because that’s what I want in my heart. If I am putting out negativity, I’m going to be a negative person. And you know, so many of these people out there, they’re like, I hate so and so. Or I see this all the time lie Topez for, you know, ty Lopez or you know, that, you know, there’s people out there that are scam artists or this or that. I’m like, you know, even if that was the case, you going out there and, and making those comments and making those jokes and being derogatory, you’re putting that energy out and if you’re putting that energy out, that has to come from within side you because you cannot put out anything that is not already with inside you because energy comes from within and your thoughts come from within.
13:01 So when you’re focused on positivity, when you’re focused on love, like you know, I saw exuded from Tom Brady, now I don’t know Tom Brady personally. He could be, you know, totally different than that. But like there is a clearly a part of him that loves his haters and that truly does wish them well because you know, he knows that, you know, like, hey, it’s not worth being negative. It’s not worth putting those things out there. You take the high road. And that’s why I try to live. And that’s my encouragement to you is like take the high road and when someone’s mean to you be loving back because you’re going to feel so much better about yourself. And it’s weird because like they don’t even know what to do. They don’t even know like how to, how to respond to it oftentimes. And very rarely, I don’t think ever.
13:40 Maybe I haven’t gotten a response back from someone when I’ve been loving and the ones that I have or that has been negative and the ones that I haven’t been very positive. And, uh, I’m gonna read you the email in just a second, but I got one more example. I was watching a Logan Paul episode and I know a lot of you guys don’t like Logan Paul and I totally get it. Like he’s not for everybody and he’s not the greatest role model, but I was watching an impulsive episode where if you don’t know the kind of, the backstory of the fall out of Logan Paul Logan, Paul’s a very, very famous youtuber. He’s got about 20 million subscribers. I think his reaches over 50 million people on social media. Um, and about two years ago, he filmed a video and a Japanese suicide forest and they stumbled across someone that had committed suicide, that had hung themselves in this forest.
14:19 It was terrible, terrible thing. And he put this video up and he showed an up close, um, a picture of the body. Now he didn’t show the actual face or the hanging, but like he showed a picture of the body hanging there, um, and the Internet and the whole world freaked out. I mean, he literally was the most hated person on the Internet overnight. He lost millions and millions and millions of dollars. Just this whole fallout. And like literally millions of people on the Internet told him to go die, to go kill himself, ironically. Right. And just be so super rude. And, um, this is, you know, two years has gone by and he’s very much matured and grown out of. But he’s like, what’s interesting is that online, I literally received hundreds of thousands of tweets and messages a day from haters and he goes out in person.
15:01 Not one single person ever came up to me and yelled at me or was mad at me or mean at me. Right? People on the online, just evil, evil people or it can come across, I don’t wanna say evil. That’s, that’s harsh. But like can say very terrible, awful things, but not say anything in real life because keyboard warrior is really, really strong. I’ve had people that talk super trashed about me on social media come up to me and, uh, you know, in real life and tell me, you know, how much they appreciate me and you know, like wanting to take a picture of me like, so it’s just, you know, it’s ironic and we’ve got to treat people with love and respect. And to finish the Logan Paul story, he said that he did have one person come up to him. It was a lady in this was, he said, I think it was almost a year later.
15:38 And she just came up to him cussing and swearing at him saying, I, you shouldn’t have done it, blah, blah, blah. And he’s like, I replied with her and said, you know what, or to her and said, you know what? I agree with you 100% what I did was absolutely wrong. I’m sorry, I apologize. I love you and I hope you have a great day. And she, he said that she looked at him and was totally caught off guard and was like, oh well, uh, I just started cussing at him and you know, again, cause she had no other response because you, it’s really hard to be derogatory towards someone and it’s really hard to tear someone down or find fault with people when they’re loving back. And so taking this high road and being different, I disagree with the haters. I disagree with people that tell, you know, people that just screw themselves or you know, go be broke or whatever.
16:19 No, I am not afraid of being polarizing. I’m not afraid to stand up for what I believe in, but standing up for what you believe in and being polarizing because you believe in something is far different than being a rude jerk. Back to haters and people that disagree with you. And I think that that’s something that we need to understand more of. And that, especially in, you know, my world in the Internet marketing community and in the entrepreneurship world, we don’t have enough of that. Like, we need love in this country and in this world more than ever before and hate and negativity has bang, Bang spreads so far and so fast. And so quickly, guess what? People make mistakes. Sometimes I make mistakes sometimes, you know, sometimes I send out the wrong email, sometimes I, you know, you know, mess up and do things that are not, you know, absolutely perfect and it’s a truly an accident.
17:05 And, you know, I learned from those things and I think that we need to have more grace than that. You know, if you get added to somebody. And in this particular case, um, and in this email that I’m going to read you, this gentlemen felt like he had been added to my list without opting in. And so I actually went and I did a little bit of research on to why this happened. And it was interesting because yeah, he did actually opt into my list, but I understand where there was confusion because the, you know, particular lists that he opted into. I had not emailed this list ever since they opted in, never, you know, one single time. Um, and we uploaded it and added them to the list and he got put into the middle of this broadcast and I should’ve done a better job on my part and making sure that there was an introductory a time period here.
17:47 But you know, you opt into something without realizing it, never get an email and then six months later you start getting your first email and it’s selling you something. Like, I understand why there you’d be upset about that, but at the same time, like it was a genuine accident. And so when you understand that like, hey, if you’re on the receiving end of something like that and your first retaliation is to be mad at that person, understand that oftentimes it really is just a genuine mistake. And if it’s not a genuine mistake, yelling back and being super mad at someone is not going to change their mind or make them change. What is gonna make them change is writing them back or writing back to them in a very articulated way. If this gentleman would have, you know, emailed me back and, and written in a very nice way and explained his side of things, why it was frustrating, you know, that would have been awesome.
18:27 I would have really appreciated that. And so, you know, if your person that you feel is the victim then then write back, that’s fine. I’m not saying don’t say something, I’m just saying be nice about it. And if you’re the person that’s receiving hate messages, like I do a lot and like, I’m sure a lot of you marketers do, um, always reply with respect, always take the high road, especially as an influencer. So especially as someone of influence, um, you know, I think you really, really need to go in, um, take the high road because we need more love. We need more love in this country and this world, and that’s what’s ultimately going to set us apart. So, um, here’s this email I’ve gotten, I’ve received, like I said, hundreds of hatred, emails and messages and I mean, people, you just gotta ignore them.
19:05 But this particular one, I felt compelled to reply to it for some reason. And so I did. So this particular guy, I’m not gonna say his name for privacy reasons obviously, so we’re going to call him Jim and uh, that’s not his name, but um, we’re going to call him that. So he says, Josh, I have seen your content on social media and I do not vibe with who you are at all. I am not even sure how I got on your list because I never chose to be on your list. I have seen you be rude and disrespectful to other people on more than one occasion. I’ll be on unsubscribing now. Okay. Now this is not really a hate filled email. In fact, I’ve gotten way, way, way, way, way, way worse emails than this. I mean, and to be fair, Jim, if you’re listening, I appreciate the fact that you know, there wasn’t cussing and swearing and insulting attacks and I appreciate the fact that you took the time to write this email.
19:46 I probably would’ve worded it a little bit differently, but hey, like saying that you’ve seem to be rude and disrespectful to it, you know, to people on more than one occasion, like you know that that’s um, I don’t want to say a harsh claim but that’s a pretty bold claim. Right. And uh, we know evidence to back that up. Like it would be nice to have a little bit more context on that. But you know, once again, I’m not mad and so guys, if you ever receive emails like this, you know, I have seen so many people get emails like this and the reply is alright, well unsubscribed then you, you know, and call them some weird name and like it’s just not okay. Here is my email back to him. And uh, once again, I’m not, I’m not doing this at all to to try to say how great I am.
20:18 I just, I want to lead by example with this. So I said, Hey Jim, thank you so much for taking the time to write your response. I understand you don’t vibe well with me and that is totally okay. Not everyone is going to get along with everyone and there are plenty of people I don’t vibe well with either, so I get it. As far as being disrespectful, I’m not sure which occasions you are referring to, but I can assure you it was not my intention. I firmly believe treating people and treating people with respect and if I have shown evidence of that not happening, I am more than willing to review the situation, apologize and make it right if needed. I know most marketers and entrepreneurs would not take the time to write back a personal response, but doing the right thing is important to me.
20:54 I wish you best of luck on your ventures and hope. Uh, you have nothing but success and have a great day. In regards to how you ended up on my list at one point or another, you must have opted into a promotion of mine. That is the only way that would’ve happened. I guess I needed to do a better job of welcoming my list. Aha. I’ve gone ahead and made sure you were removed from all my email list so you never get any more of my emails. Thanks again for the feedback that I’m always driving to get better with. Excellent Josh. So like that right there versus how somebody else would apply it. And I don’t care who’s telling you. I don’t care. Grant Cardone tells you to be rude. I don’t care if you know, and I’m not picking on anybody specifically here, but like you know, any influencer that you follow, if you buy, I bought courses from them or you know, they’ve got millions of followers.
21:35 If they’re telling you to be rude or they’re leading by example, I’m being rude and jerks back to people. Don’t follow them. You know, like I’m not trying to single out people and I’m not trying to say that Grant Cardone or anybody, you know that these other people are bad people, but truth is still truth and right is still right and wrong is still wrong. Don’t, you know, go and do things that are wrong just because somebody else does or says it’s okay and don’t not do things that are right just because nobody else is doing it. And, um, that’s kind of my message for you here today and I think this is important and I think it’s something that I needed to get off my chest and, and I want to be fully transparent and honest with you. I had no intention when I wrote back that email to make a podcast episode about it, but I wrote back that email and I was thinking about it and I was like, you know what, I’m going to do a podcast episode on that because I think it is really important.
22:17 And you know, me getting hyped up with the New England patriots, um, you know, and thinking about Tom Brady made me think of that and I was like, yeah, I think there’s a lot of really good comparison to here and that we can all learn from. So it’s spread love in the world. And, you know, I’ll be honest with you guys, I have, I’ve grown tremendously. And you know, back when I first started into my social media game, like I was kind of rude to people sometimes. I’m not saying I’m an angel, I’m not saying I’m a saint over here. Like I’ve messed up. And you know, back in my early days, I, I had an ego bigger than Mount Everest, right? Like, I was arrogant, I was egotistical and I probably was really rude to people. Sometimes I don’t remember specific instances off the top of my head, but you know, it happens.
22:52 And if I’ve ever been rude to you, if I’ve ever been disrespectful to you, like please let me know. Reach out on Instagram that Josh [inaudible] let you know, let me know how I can make it right. Um, I really truly do believe that living with a clean conscious is a conscience, is amazing and you can’t be at peace with yourself if you don’t have a clean, conscious, uh, conscience. Um, you can’t. And you know, if you have constantly been rude to people, if you’ve scammed anybody, if you’ve done any of these things, like it’s a really hard life to live because you’re not living guilt-free and you’re living with this burden. And um, I’ll actually be a hundred percent honest with you. Um, I’ve gone back to people you know, from months in the past years in the past to go and make things right simply because I don’t want to have to live with that.
23:35 I want to live truly free, and live in, you know, perfect peace with you know, the world and myself and with God and… and all those things. So, spread love, spread positivity. Remember that when somebody is coming out at you, and someone is so filled with anger, and hatred, like that’s with inside them, and they are struggling, they are not coming from a place of peace and a place of gratitude. If you reply, then neither reply negatively, then you’re not either. So, reply with love, reply with positivity, reply from a place of gratitude, because that’s what you ultimately want inside you. Alright? Alright guys, that’s all… all I got for you as far as that topic is concerned. I really do hope that helped, and that you learn something from it. If you liked the episode, or if you agree with me, disagree with me, please feel free to hit me up on Instagram @JoshForti. I’d love to hear from you. @JoshForti. We’d love to hear from you on there. Go Patriots! I’m super excited. Like I said, I’m getting ready to watch the game. Go Patriots. I hope we win another one. I think that… I think we have a good shot. I’m a little worried, i’m not gonna lie, a little worry that Gronkowski is gone, I think he was a big part of that. And I’m a little bit nervous, about our offensive line. I think a lot of people focus on the receivers, and receivers are good, but we have Tom Brady’s, so, that’s not really what I’m worried about, i’m more worried about our offensive line, and the the loss of Rob Gronkowski, but, we shall see. Hope we get to the Superbowl. Also, I’d love to know your team, if you want to let me know what your team is, hit me up on Instagram, leave a comment on my latest post, and, we’ll talk some football on there,I love that as well.
