17 What’s up guys? Welcome back to another episode of The‌ ‌Think‌ ‌Different‌ ‌Theory. My name is Josh Forti, and I think, I think it’s time that I need to change my intro. We are what? 147 episodes in. Almost 150 episodes in. I think maybe I need to change my intro/outro a little bit. Maybe I’ll change that at 150, maybe I’ll do it at 200. I don’t know. I feel like that needs to happen because while that intro is awesome, it was my first one and I… I feel like there’s so many more… more cool things that I can do with it. In fact, my podcasting team has been yelling at me for it for a while. They’re like, “Dude, send us over a new intro and a new outro, so that we can change it out for you.” And, I’ve kind of been ignoring them and been like, “It’s all good. It’s all good.”

00 And, partly because I’ve been busy, but guys, I am so excited to be back in work mode. I am in work mode this week. Not only am I in work mode, I’m just in like this learning working new energized state. And, it’s because I am now out of vacation mode that I was in in Kauai. I’m in Maui right now. I am sitting here. I can’t even tell you, like, I looked out the window and I was just overwhelmed with gratitude. I’ve been overwhelmed with gratitude a lot these last couple of weeks, but seriously, I’m looking out my window in a… at these palm trees that are overlooking the beach. I’m on the second floor so I have the view and it’s just nothing but ocean and ocean water as far as I can see out. And then off to the right a little bit, you can see another Island out there, just absolutely gorgeous and beautiful.

45 But, most people would come here and they’d be like, “Wow, I’m on vacation.” I’m coming here, and I’m like, “Alright, it’s time to get working. It’s time to be back into work and business mode.” And, the reason I say that is because number one, I’m just very passionate about business. I’m very passionate about work. I love working. I love what I do. I love serving you guys. I love making a difference in the world, but also, I mean comparatively to where I just was last week in a tent the whole week, like this is like, “Oh, I’m back to normal life now. I’m back to civilization.” I can actually get stuff done, which is a nice feeling. But seriously, I am back in work mode and in this episode specifically, I wanted to walk you through and share with you, I think, the three top skills in business that you can possess, particularly in today’s world and era.

28 But I think just in general now, I want to walk you through the three top skills that you should learn, that you should focus on. And I would say that if you do not have a, a program, whether that’s a course or books or some way to consume content or learn about these three areas, I think that it’s incredibly important that you do that. All right? Because these three areas that we’re going to talk about are absolutely fundamental to really having success in business. Now, as you grow in business, as you grow in your, uh, you know, like, you know, start making 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, $100,000 a month, um, you’re, you’re going to, you know, eventually hire people in to do some of these things and you’re going to double down on your specific area of the end zone of expertise or area of expertise.

16 But, um, one of the things that I think was interesting as I was learning from one of my mentors, as you guys know, Sam ovens has played a huge role in my business career as well as Russell Brunson. But, uh, specifically, uh, in this case, Sam ovens, he was talking about how you need to know how your business runs and operates, especially at the beginning, right? You need to have a basic understanding of accounting and a basic understanding of how your finances work and how your Facebook ads are running and how your sales are running and how your products are being made and like all these different things. And you don’t need to know that forever. Eventually, once you get big enough, you’re gonna hire people in to manage those things. But even after you hire those people in, it’s going to be a long, long time before you’re not actually focused on at least understanding the basics of how your business is run.

57 And so as I looked at that, that was one of the things that I know that I wasn’t doing very well in my business that was being a control freak when I first got started with him. But I kind of eased up on that, but I didn’t really understand how all of the parts of my business ran. And, um, it’s because I didn’t actually possess the skills to understand what I was supposed to be doing. And so as I started really looking and studying and learning like, okay, what are the different parts of the business? What are all the different pieces that I need to know and understand? I started to look at skillsets in your business and or in business in general. And I started to kind of narrow down and break down, okay, what are the core fundamental functions of a business and where do I really need to be focusing my time, my energy?

38 What do I need to understand and learn? And if you are in business right now or you are just getting started. So what I kind of say is if you’re just getting started in business, you’ve been in business for a year or under or you’re making less than $10,000 a month consistently, right? Like one $10,000 a month is not going to be, you know, you’re, you’re not a six figure business quite yet. So if you’re under six figures in revenue for the year or your less than a year old in your business, I would say that you are just getting started out in business. So if you’re just getting started out in business, these next three skills that I’m going to tell you are like absolutely you need to learn for sure one of them for sure the first one, but I believe all three are going to serve you very, very well.

18 If you are over that benchmark, you’re just over six figures in business or you’re over six big, here’s the business at this point. Um, and or you have, you know, been around for longer than a year and you’re stuck, right? You’re making 20 to $50,000 a month and for whatever reason you cannot seem to get over that hump. You’re completely stuck there. You’re, you’re trading time for money, right? You’re really stuck in that gap of, you know, working 12 hours a day or you’re working, you know, 10 hours a day, five or six days a week and you can’t seem to get away from it. You can’t seem to just like be able to turn it off or walk away or else your business is going to fail. These things are also going to help you a lot as well. All right, so I kind of want to set the tone for this because that’s who this is for.

57 If you’re making millions and millions of dollars, you still believe that these things are, are important. But ah, maybe this podcast episode isn’t the one specifically for you. This is for those people that are, you know, doing 50,000 or less in their business and are either just starting out or been in business for a while and feel stuck. All right? So I sat down, I started learning about all these different things and as you guys may have known that some of you guys are newer here, um, I wrote a, a a cheat sheet basically called the, the five fundamental principles of success in life in business. And basically what I did is I went and I studied people that have made hundreds of millions or billions of dollars, people like Mark Cuban and Warren Buffett’s and Ray Daleo. And Tony Robbins and Russell Brunson. I mean, these people have made either billions or hundreds of millions of dollars. And I looked at the fundamental skills that they had and I was like, okay, how, what are the core qualities that they all have?

46 Right? And I came up with five of those. I wrote this, or I wrote that a cheat sheet. In fact, we’ll link that down below. You can get that. I think it’s a think different [inaudible] I don’t know. We’ll link it down below so that you guys can check that out in the description. It’s 100% for free. There’s not even an upsell on it. It’s just get it. And then you’ll get some emails from me, which is, you know, always a good thing. Um, but this kind of piggybacks off of that. But specifically in business, I’ve noticed a lot of people are really struggling, right? In business there are a lot of people are really struggling to get the next level, so really have an understanding. And the more I talk to people, the more I realize that there’s these three fundamental areas that if you’re good at all three of these things or you have a, a solid understanding of all of these three things, these people are making more money, they’re working less, and they have a better understanding of money and of business and where they want to go in the directions that they want to go.

37 All right, so let’s dive into what these three things are. I think I’ve given you enough of the intro here. Um, two today. Ivan. The first thing, and I’ve said this a million times, you guys can probably know what I’m going to say here. Um, for number one, this is universally across the board. I don’t care if you’re in business or not in business and this skill. I believe every single person on the planet should know this guy. I think it should be taught in school and that is sales and communication. All right? You need to learn how to be able to sell and communicate well. Because if you can sell and communicate well, all right, you’re going to be able to get anything that you want out of life. You’re going to be able to ask the right questions in life. You’re going to be able to make more money in life.

16 You’re going to be able to build relationships with people because selling is communication and selling and communication are like you have to be able to listen and solve problems. If you’re good at selling, you’re good at listening and solving problems, like if you’re actually good at it. All right? So if you’re good at selling, meaning you’re good at listening and solving problems, communication, kind of the, the, the rest of that, the rest of communication, being able to articulate well, put your point across well, uh, persuade people well, ethically of course, really all these fundamental keys, you’re going to be able to go out there and have success in your business. Not only because you’re going to be able to sell your product when you get on the phone with someone or sell your product in person, but you’re also going to be able to communicate and articulate your point well whenever you’re about your message, you’re gonna be able to get that across.

03 Well. That is a fundamental key to being able to go out there and have success in business. I know, actually I don’t know anybody. I was going to say I know very few, but I don’t know anybody in business that is successful that does not know how to sell and communicate well in some format or another. No, we each find our own way to do that. Look at Russell Brunson, Russell Brunson, if you’ve ever met him before and I’ve met him several times. Russell Brunson’s very awkward in person. He’s an introvert. He is not a good one on one sales person at all. All right. He’s not, but he is great at selling. He found his own way to sell me. On the other hand, I am not an awkward person in person. I am, you know, I’m very outgoing and friendly. I’m very easy to talk to.

43 I’m great selling one-on-one. I’m great selling on the phone. That’s kinda my, you know, my area of expertise, that’s my zone. I have an entire sales training program called selling with confidence and if you’re interested in that, uh, you can go to sales and just go to sales and it’ll give you all the information about that. But we have about 70 students in there or so at at the time of this recording and I teach them all about sales and it’s application based sales, it’s phone sales, like that’s what I’m good at. So you’ve got to find whatever it is that you are good at. Whatever format of selling that you prefer, that’s your area of expertise and you’ve got to get good at that. If you cannot sell, you’re not going to make money. All right? It’s just, it’s just true. All right?

22 Like you’ve got to have that and communication goes right along with that. I believe that not only in business but also in life. I believe that one of the single greatest problems with America today and in the world today is that people don’t know how to communicate to each other. They don’t know how to communicate. Um, there are thoughts and ideas. They don’t know how to explain things well. They don’t know how to interpret things from other people. Well, they don’t know how to ask the right questions. And when you’re not able to do that, not only are you going to struggle in business big time, you’re also gonna struggle in life. So if you want to have a better life, if you want to have a better business, learn sales and communication. Alright, if you want more information on that, I have a completely free sales guide, which we can also link below.

59 It’s like a 30 something pages long. It’s called the ultimate sales framework. All right? The ultimate sales framework. You can check that out in Lincoln, the description below, and it’s basically how to sell anything to anyone like that. The fundamental pillars and keys to success in sales. All right? Once again, free, no upsells or anything like that. Just dag. Go ahead and link. We’ll link it down below and you can download it. Okay, so that’s the first thing. Now the second one, the second skill here is something that goes right along with this skill. However, I think that it is very fundamentally different, and this is more specifically for today’s day and age, and I think that it will be around for a while, but this principle has been around for a very long period of time, and that is you need to learn how to build the funnels and copyright.

46 Now before you freak out and be like, Oh, Josh, you know, you’re just a click funnels person. You don’t need a funnel to sell something. You do. And here’s why I say that, because a funnel is not just a series of landing pages, right? As a funnel is not just built on ClickFunnels. Now, that’s my favorite place to build funnels on, right? Like I love click funnels. That’s when I build them all on. But a funnel, a sales funnel is simply a, a set of steps or a process of, of taking someone a cold lead and converting them into a paying customer. And what’s interesting is sales learning, sales and sales skills is actually part of funnel building and funnel building is just kind of the next step, the next big part or the next, yeah. The next step out of, um, of funnel building.

28 I mean, I’m, I’m sales and what I mean by that is, think about it. If I were to go put together a sales funnel and the traditional, uh, aspect or element that people think of sales funnels that, right, I’ve got my opt in page where I get their leading information. Maybe I take them through a training of some sort, maybe I send them some value videos, whatever. I incentivize them to get their contact information right? And then I educate them and then I sell them something at the end of it. Usually right now that sale could take place on a webinar. That sales could take place on a landing page or a sales page that failed could take place in person. That sale could take place on the phone. That’s how good could take place anywhere. But the final step of building a funnel is the sale, right?

09 And so the reason that the sale part of it sales and communication is so important is because you can be good at sales and communication without being good at funnels. But you can’t be good at funnels unless you are good at sales in some format because sales is part of a funnel. Funnels are not part of sales. All right, so I say sales funnels and copywriting because typically most sales funnels today are done online and they’re done in a way that we’re, we have written texts of some sort. Copywriting, I think is one of the highest paying skills right now in the world. If you’re a good copywriter and you know how to write well and communicate well, once again, communication, these kind of flow together, I think that this is fundamentally important and my favorite place to do this as clickfunnels. If you’re not familiar with clickfunnels, check them out.

54 We have some really cool training on clickfunnels coming up and it’s going to be absolutely awesome and amazing. I can’t tell you quite about it right now, but we are going to be coming out with that, but when you understand how to build a sales funnel and how to tie sales into that, you’re going to really be able to generate an unlimited, unlimited amount of leads, right? A lot of people, once again, they think that the sales funnel is this series of pages. No, a sales funnel is the traffic. A sales funnel is the pages a sales funnel is the sales conversion process. There’s an entire part. There’s, there’s, there’s multiple different parts of the sales funnel process, and if you don’t understand how to build sales funnels that convert and then sell to those leads effectively, you’re going to have a really hard time in business.

36 Every single business today, whether it is Amazon or Facebook or Instagram or Nike or Walmart or Apple or you name it, like any store, food or service or product or digital or coaching. Every single successful business in the world today utilizes a sales funnel. Every single one of them, once again, you might not see or understand that sales funnel, but every single one of them does. They also have a value ladder, which is not really part of sales funnels, but it could be. Um, and they understand the concept of building that pipeline, of breaking down false beliefs of building sales funnels that actually convert and then they end that with the actual sale itself. Alright, so that’s number two. So number one is sales and communication. You’ve got to be able to learn how to, if you’ve got to learn how to sell and you’ve got to learn how to communicate, all right, they go hand in hand.

30 It’s very, very, very important. Learn it. I would literally say that all three of these skills really, but particularly this first one is sales and communication. If you are down to your last thousand dollars and your option was save that $1,000 or a buy a training program that’s going to teach you sales and communication. I would buy the sales and training program twice. Like I’m dead serious. Like it’s, it’s that important and it will yield you that much benefit on the backend to understand sales and communication. So sales communication, number one, number two, sales funnels and copywriting. Alright, learn how to build funnels and learn how to copyright for those funnels and have an understanding of what it is that you’re trying to do. Because when you can communicate well and when you can write well, and when you can understand the steps that people go through and the false beliefs that you have to break down, you’re going to have an much, much easier time selling to these people.

24 When you do get to the sales portion of it, and that’s how you’re going to build a brand, that’s how you’re gonna build a following. That’s how you’re going to build a movement. And that’s how you’re ultimately going to have success in building a large company or whatever it is that you’re trying to do. All right, so number one, sales communication, number two, funnels and copywriting I think is the second most important thing right there behind sales and seriously like we’ll have some more training coming up on that. I’m, I’m very excited for it. Number three, you need to learn how to create systems and automate. You’ve got to learn how to do this. The reason right now, and this is even more important for you that are listening right now that has a business that’s making 10 to $50,000 a month. The person right now that is listening, that is overworked, feels underpaid, feels like during a rat race still because they’re doing all the work or maybe they have one or two people working for them, but they’re still working.

12 1214 1618 hours a day. Absolutely positively needs to learn systems. They absolutely need to learn how to automate. You need to learn systems and automation before you build a team because you’re not going to be able to build a team unless you know how to build systems and automate. And the reason I say that is because the only reason that I’m able to do what I’m able to do today, which travel around and be sitting here in Maui and I went snorkeling this morning and it got to swim with sea turtles and uh, you know, came back and had made $3,500. How was I able to do that? Because I have systems and automation in place. My team distributes most of my content. When I record a podcast episode, the only thing that I do is I sit in front of my microphone. Obviously I have my notes or whatnot, but I turn on audacity, which is the program that I use and turn on my microphone.

00 I talk into this microphone for 20 minutes or 30 minutes or I interviewed my person for an hour. Once I’m done with that episode, I upload that to, to a portal on Google drive. I write a recap of it and I’m done. It then gets put out on Facebook in two different places on blah on a blog, on Instagram. We have graphics made for it on, I don’t know, five or six different podcast platforms. All of them. Why? Because it’s all systemized and automated on the backend. How nice would that be if you had that in your life? How nice would it be if you were able to automate everything that you did? The reason I don’t touch customer service, I haven’t touched a customer service email or booked a a an interview for my podcast in months. Basically since we started Y cause I have a system and a process for all of it.

49 My team takes care of it. You need to learn that skill if you ever want to be able to buy your time back. But some financial freedom is great and you absolutely need financial freedom. You need money to be able to set these things up. However you can be stupid rich. But if you don’t have like time freedom, you can have all the money in the world, but you’re going to be working the whole time. What good is it to be worth millions and millions of dollars if you’re working 18 hours a day to maintain it? All right, and that was the thing for me. I took a pay cut to be able to buy my time back and to be able to set up systems and automations and processes. I’ve spent thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars learning this and this goes right along with these things because the first thing that you need to learn in your businesses, how to sell, you need to learn how to communicate to your audience, communicate to your customer even if you don’t have an audience and sell to them.

35 Then a sales funnel is, is an automated sales process essentially, or automated leads so that they will get to you being able to sell them. And then the automation is everything else surrounding that automation of deliverables, automation of lead generation, automation of customer service, automation of product creation, automation of fixing issues, automation of the content creation and content distribution. You can automate all of that and that’s when your life truly becomes free. And I believe that if you want to go out there and be a successful entrepreneur, whatever that means to you, okay, that could be making $20,000 a month for the rest of your life. If you wanna make $20,000 a month for the rest of your life, you got to learn sales, sales, funnels and automations. You’ve got to, if you want to make $100,000 a month for the rest of your life, you got to learn sales and communication funnels and copywriting and automation.

22 You gotta learn all three of them. If you want to make $1 million a month, same thing. You wanna make $10,000 a month. Same thing. These are core fundamental principles of business because when you have these things set up in place, if you can sell, you’ll never be broke. The reason, the single greatest reason guys that I am willing to take risks is not because I’m smart is not because I have an audience is not because I have money in the bank. It’s none of those things. I was taking risk long before I had any money in the bank. I mean like I was taking risks when I had a couple of hundred bucks in the bank. Guys like, like no money, right? Why? Because I fundamentally believed in my ability to sell and communicate well and I spent thousands of dollars early on. Even when I didn’t have the money, I put every penny I had into sales training to learning sales, to sitting on sales calls over and over and over and over again.

12 When I was in school and my mom had to learn how to speak and do speech presentations, I knew how to communicate and sell because I had that skill. I was able to take any risks because I knew worst case scenario, if crap hit the fan and I ran out of money, I could go sell something. And then once I understood that skill and once I knew how to do that well, then I was like, okay, how do I automate my sales process? How do I get leads on demand? How do I, you know, warm them up before I get on the call with them? How do I, you know, sell without having to get on the phone? How do I sell high ticket and have them warmed up so that when they’re on the phone, they’re ready to be sold to? That’s a sales funnel, right?

44 That’s what a sales funnel does. It brings in leads and it automates that entire process. And then I got to this point in my career and in my business, in my life where I was working 18 hours a day, literally seven days a week. That is not a sarcastic figure. I was actually working 18 hours a day, seven days a week for probably four to five months. I was making between 40 and $70,000 a month in revenue, not profit, but in in revenue, 40 to $70,000 a month. My life was miserable and I ended up shortly after that hitting rock bottom and going from making 40 to $70,000 a month to making less than $5,000 a month. Actually, it’s more like less than $3,000 a month in a matter of like four days. Why? Because I burnt out because I had no systems. I had no automation, I had no process, and that’s where automation and systems came in and that’s when my entire life changed.

34 And that’s where you need to be focused on. So learn sales and communication. Okay? The best place to learn that. I would like to think that I have some really good resources. We have free guides, we have paid stuff like you can go out there and learn a tremendous amount from the content stuff that I put out there because I have put out a lot of information on sales and communication and what we continue to be doing that I’m going to sales and or we’ll link to free guide down below so that you can check that out when it comes to funnels and designing funnels, building funnels. I don’t think there’s anybody better than Katherine Jones. Honestly, I’m gonna get, you know, the resources here. Um, Catherine is amazing. She is speaking up funnel hacking live this year. She has a program called click funnels design school.

15 Russell Brunson and her are like best friends. Seriously. Like Russell Brunson asked her to speak on stage with him at funnel hacking live is going to be absolutely amazing. She has taught hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of entrepreneurs and people how to build seven figure funnels. Does that, she has this thing called design hacking. Seriously check out clickfunnels down or it’s actually called CF clickfunnels CF design school. I Catherine Jones is amazing.
