Do What You Love, No Matter What It Takes

WHAT IS THIS EPISODE ABOUT?

In this episode, I want to talk to you about the topic of doing what you love because I see so many people on a daily basis absolutely hate their life they hate their job they hate their career. They hate their environment they hate what they have to do each day I’ve been there.

WHY SHOULD YOU LISTEN?

I’m going to beg and plead with you to do what you love and tell you why it is stupid to do anything else. This topic is so important to me because you don’t need to be stuck in a job you hate. Think about it – this is something you spend a majority of your life doing, why should you hate it?!

EPISODE TRANSCRIPT:

If you are not actively doing what you love right now, on a daily basis, like every single day. Not once a week, once a month, like every day. If you’re not actively doing what you love. Please, please, please, please, I beg you listen to this episode I want to change your mind. I want to show you what’s possible. I want to change your life and I really hope that I can. So please listen to this. If that’s you because I really think it can change your life forever.

What’s up guys welcome back to another episode of the Think Different Theory. My name is Josh Forti and we are on episode 18 and this episode might possibly be the most important episode that I’ve done. It’s certainly the one that I’m most passionate about.

Up until this point of the podcast in the 18 episodes that I’ve done here today and that is I want to talk to you about the topic of doing what you love, because I see so many people on a daily basis absolutely hate their life they hate their job they hate their career. They hate their environment they hate what they have to do each day I’ve been there and we can get into that later. I’ve been there.

I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders I know what it’s like to hate my life every single day for weeks and months and years on end. However, I changed it. And I really want to put something in perspective here.

1:26

Okay. There are hundreds of millions actually billions of people, but let’s talk about the modern developed world there are hundreds of millions of people in the United States that hate what they do, they wake up every single day and they don’t like their job. They don’t like their boss. They don’t like their work environment they’re like it, they’re not doing what they love and you think you can they could go and do it. If that’s you, right now, you could actually go and do it. And so many of you believe that you can or are confusing yourself and are lying to yourself and are scared to for the wrong reasons. I want you to think about this

I’m about to be 25, years old. Okay, coming up here very soon. Let’s say that you know the average person they go to work every day, you know, they get a job, maybe their high school, college, whatever they graduate college around 22 let’s just say that at 25. I’ve been working for five years. All right, like actually working in a real job in the real world. Okay, if that job if you’re 25 years old right now and you’re working in a job that you hate and you started working at 20 you have eight times that left of doing what you hate every single day until you could think about retiring. Eight times if you’re 30 maybe it’s five or six times but like that is a long time!

That is the best years of your life. Let’s say you’ve got 80 years to live. All right. I know the average lifespan is less than pretended 80 years old. Okay. After 80 it’s pretty hard to get around and move or whatnot. But let’s just say at 80, years old.

So for the first 20 years of your life, you go through you learn a bunch of stuff you don’t remember stuff to when you’re like 8-10 10-11, years old. Now you go through your teenage years or what not. You go to high school and then you get out. You go to college. And so you’ve got four good years of college.

All right, you start work right around that 20-ish, 21 year old mark. If you started doing what you hate, and you work. The average 40 hours a week five days a week three hours a day 40 hours a week five days a week job. You’re going to spend 21 to 65, the best years of your life working on something that you hate you’re going to spend all of your 20s in your 30s your 40s and your 50s and even part of your 60s doing something that you hate and then guess what to what to live the dream.

The current model of working in what you hate and then retire is xxx

Let’s pretend you’re lucky, and you retire early. Let’s say you retire at 60. Okay, now you’ve got from 60 to you’ve got 20 years you’re older at this time it’s hard to get around. You’re not in your 20s and 30s anymore. You can’t go take a lot more, you know, you can’t do like long physical things at that age, you’ve got tons more responsibilities, like why would you wait, why would you do something that you hate for the rest of your life.

I just don’t understand and like people can be like, “Oh, Josh, we’ll you don’t understand.” Listen, I went and created the life of my dreams. Nobody handed it to me. I went and did what I loved. Nobody gave me money. Nobody wrote me a check. I was dead broke. I lived in my buddy’s couch chasing this dream I had failed businesses!

4:30

You’d be like, “Oh, well, Josh, like you know you went through and you have the, you know, you have the mindset to keep going.” What’s my other option? Do something that I hate for the rest of my life. Do something that’s like, I don’t mind it most days I hate but like I get by. Living for the fact that, you know, we were like oh man this cup of coffee made my day really? Really? Your life sucks so bad that, and I’m getting really honest here I don’t, I’m not trying to be rude or offend anybody. I’m not saying anybody’s better or worse, like if you if you’re in a job you hate versus what you do you love doesn’t make you a better or worse person I want to clarify that. But like really does your life sucks so much that like all I have to do is buy you a $4 cup of coffee and that makes your day makes your life so much better.

Is that how you are going to live the rest of your life? That a $10 meal, a $4 cup of coffee, whatever it is, is going to make your day. It’s the thing that you look forward to. You know, pretzels on Thursday, your ‘half off on Wednesday’. You get to enjoy Netflix and hobbies on the Weekends. Is that how you are going to live your life?

Or are you going to just go out and do what you love? And so many people I meet, there’s one or two reason why they don’t do what they love to do.

5:40

One, they don’t believe that it is possible. They don’t believe that it is possible for them to actually go out there and monetise whatever it is that they want to do.

‘I want to be a horseback rider’, ‘Oh, there’s no money in that’ B.S.

‘I want to be a magician, I want to be a musician or I want to play video games all day’. People don’t think it is possible to monetize and build a business around it or a lifestyle around it. You can! We have the internet now and social media and Youtube. You have all the information around in the world to go out and do these things. Anything is possible.

If your mind can think it up, give your mind permission to go think it up things that you would want to do.

What does your dream life actually look like?

How would you monetize things?

How would you build that?

And go do it! Because it’s so totally possible!

6:31

The second reason is because they’re scared. Scared of failure or what others might think. Who cares? Who cares, your mom, dad, boyfriend, girlfriend, your friends? If they’re not supportive of what you want to do in your life, why are you hanging around with them?

I want to be clear, I’m not saying disrespect your parents.

I’m a Christian, I believe in honoring your father, your mother’s in the Bible. Right. But I didn’t let my parents opinion stop me from what I wanted to go do I certainly didn’t let my extended family; my grandparents, and they were so negative like they literally told me I was going to hell. Basically, right, like they were they were not supportive.

7:09

If your friends and family are not supportive of you. Why do you hang out with them like still be nice to them, still love your parents. I still love my family and I hang up. Why me I have been raised with my family. Thankfully, now I didn’t always but like I do now because I was intentional about that. But why would you hang around friends that don’t support your goals and dreams. What kind of friend is that, and it’s like oh well. Others might look at me and think I failed or do they know everything about your life. Who cares what they think 95% or more of the people that you come in contact with every single day and the people on social media; you will never let a factor impact your life and will have no idea whether you failed or messed up and will not define your success in any way shape or form.

So why do you care what they think do you go around all day thinking about what everybody else is doing with their life and judging on, oh, he’s a failure. She’s a failure. If you do, you suck and you need to stop because that’s a miserable depressing life because you’re better than no one and nobody’s better than you like it’s a two way street. And if you don’t; well, congratulations! That’s a great life to live and the people that actually matter are not the people that are actually whose opinions actually matter.

Everybody matters but like whose opinions actually matter who are actually people worth getting the approval of they’re not sitting around here. I guarantee you, I’m not sitting around looking at your life going like, oh man, he failed. He sucks the life he’s never going to make it. She’s never going to make it. Oh man, that Sarah girl. She never finished, oh, oh man, that Mark dude he never did you know oh man that whatever I’m not doing that most if not all of like we as influencers with people with whatever business. We’re not doing that we’re focused on our own lane.

8:46

We want to see people like when I want you to go out and fail and then win. Because if you fail, that means you’re trying and I respect someone that tries.

And so you’re sad or depressed or you’re not letting yourself win because you care about what your mom or your dad thinks or your best friend things or your neighbor thinks or your boss thinks or whoever on Instagram.

I feel like Gary Vee right now but I believe in this message so much, why would you stop chasing your dreams because of what somebody else thought like why would you do that stop caring about that focused on your lane and what you want to do get clearly defined with your goals.

9:24

You got one life to live. One life.

You’re going to die. You’re going to go out there and you’re going to wake up one day at 30 and 40 and 50 and 60. This was really real to me.

I was thinking about this the other day. I’m going to be 25. On February, 1st, that’s my birthday okay uh the Super Bowl is February 3 so it’s like my birthday is two days before the Super Bowl my Patriots are in the Super Bowl. It’s awesome. I’m so excited I was at the AFC Championship game so freaking cool but I was thinking about this like holy cow. I remember like I was like 18-19. I remember I was 21 thinking. And I’ve got plenty of time. Never going to grow up and I’m like I’m turning 25 and I don’t think I’m old yet by any means. I got like 20-30 years before I get old right maybe when I’m 50-60 I’ll think I’m old, but not for a while but like it was a reality check of holy cow. I’m never going to be 24 again 24 was a great year. 23 was great… I’m never going to be that young I’m getting older, they actually got to grow up like oh man, a lot of my friends are like married and have kids like oh whoa. Holy cow. Wow, I’ve got to grow up.

I realized that life only happens once if you don’t go out and create your life. Now, I don’t care how old you are my target market for this podcast is my age 20 to 28 year olds right but if you’re 30 right now 35-40 and you’re listening to this podcast. Why are you not going to doing it, there’s no excuse.

And if and I’m not saying, by the way.

Actually, let’s jump into this topic. Another reason that I’ve heard people be like, well I can’t go do that is because they say I have responsibilities, right, I’ve got kids to take care of. I’ve got you know whatever to take care of. So take care of them, but be actively moving towards your goals, get them involved go chase your goals in the family. Go start a YouTube channel together go start a company together, get them all involved like don’t let those things hold you back utilize those things are beautiful awesome things if you can’t afford to quit your job right now and go all into your dreams don’t. But be actively pursuing it. And I as a single person went out there and I went in and had a job as I was going through and learning new skills.

I didn’t let this uh this concept of all I’m going to quit my job and go all in like I didn’t do that right away. I actually went through the process of a great what do I need I bought a course I got educated, I still had to pay my bills like I think people think that I when I say just go do what you love that I say just quit everything go all in and jump off a cliff and don’t look back, be smart about it but be intentional don’t sit around and do nothing. Don’t sit around and go, well someday. Well, that would be nice.

12:20

Well, I wish I could do that. But it’s not for me. Why not go and do it like you have the ability, you have the internet now you have literally limitless information at your fingertips.

Google’s mission statement their vision for the company. Okay, is to be able to create a search engine so powerful; that you could ask it any question and it would answer instantaneously with the perfect answer every single time. All right, that’s what they’re working towards. Will they get there probably never, I mean it’s an unachievable goal. But like my point is, is that they’re designing that is already here.

12:55

That’s what they’re trying to create and they’re actively working towards the end, it exists now. Steps to that you have Google to literally go and be able to search anything and get information you have Google you have YouTube or Facebook, you have the internet like you can go and find these things out. But you’re sitting over there making an excuse that oh I can’t do it or I don’t believe in myself. Why: Because you’re scared of somebody else’s opinion. Stop basing your life of others opinions, please!

It’s your life and sit down and have honest conversations and one of the things that and because I know Gary Vaynerchuk kind of talks about this book talks like there’s a lot. One of the things I don’t think that he does well enough.

And then I really want to be intentional about doing is saying that, like if he’s like so you know if your mom and your dad know like be respectful, but have honest open communication between them go out there and be like, listen, mom. This is what I want to do. This is what I want to do I want to do this, I want this one I’m going to go chase my dream be open and honest about it. And then if they’re like, no, we demand that you do, blah, blah, blah. Then that’s when you can go and say, listen, I respect your opinion are you wanting me to do blah blah blah, but you know I have to make this decision for me; this is what I want to do with my life.

14:11

And be okay with having that relationship you a little bit distant for a while because guess what you don’t want to wake up at 30-40, 50-60, years old and go, mom, dad, I followed exactly what you said. But I would have been way happier over here. You don’t want to wake up with regret or resentment towards them. Do what you love. Now go follow that through all that passion. People are like, ‘oh man, Josh, you know, you can make more with the job you could, you know, do this job security this you can always get a job.’

So yes, it might not be $100,000 your job right off the bat right away but you can always get a job, you can always go back to that. And right now, while you’re young, right now is the prime time the economy is good. The market is good. There are there are so many things that are good right now and you have the ability to go out people are paying big dollars online people are spending money take risk right now it is the best time in the history of the world to take risks and to go out and do what you love, but you’re sitting there worried about the bad, focus on the risk and not going to do it because why I don’t understand.

15:17

And so I’m pleading with you. I’m begging with you. I have taken people and coached them to build a lifestyle around what they love. To take their passions, I did it for myself; I’ve done it for others in any niche any industry, whatever you want, you can build an audience monetize it you can go out and build a business, you can go out and actually get paid to go do it, anything.

There was a guy, a good friend of mine his dad hunts Bigfoot for a living like he teaches people how to go… it’s crazy. It’s fictitious I don’t believe in Bigfoot right but he literally hunts and teach people how to hunt and chase Bigfoot what that like that’s his business is. Because he wanted to go do that so why wouldn’t you? Why would you sit around and listen to and we’re going to get into this in tomorrow’s episode or the next days but coming up here soon about college but why would you sit around and listen to a professor or listen to anybody that doesn’t live the life that you want to live. That’s not actively doing things that you want to do.

16:18

I remember sitting in college. And once again, I’m not going to spend too much time on this is for another episode. But I remember sitting there thinking, this person does not live the life that I want to live and they’re not teaching me a skill that will get me to where I want to be in life. Why the heck am I listening to them.

That’s why I ended up leaving.

Why would you let somebody else dictate your life, why would you not go out there and actually do what you love when you have the ability to? There is not a single thing; find something that you cannot go and build an audience around or monetize or build a business around or actually get paid for and I don’t know there’s not sending messages on Instagram. If you disagree.

Right. Please, please, please understand that in today’s world, no matter what you do, no matter what you want to do, no matter what your passion is you can go out to that you want to be a day care babysitter all day if that’s what’s going to make you happy, go and do that.

17:09

Don’t just go do it. You don’t need permission from anybody you just need a vision says this is what I want to do. This is what I love to do and I’m going to go do it if you want to go build a billion dollar company, go do it if you want to go fishing all day and talk about how to fish better go do it.

You have the ability to do that if you want to go snorkelling all day and film it and put it on YouTube, go do it. You will make money with it eventually will you be able to quit your job right away and go into a full time probably not took me over a year.

Oh yeah, over a year to quit my job.

17:50

But, and that was working really, really hard. But why would you stay stagnant right now not actively working towards that if you are in a job that you hate if you are not actively doing what you love. My question to you is why? And my plead to you is, please go start even if you don’t quit your job for another two years or three years, what would happen in three years from now, two situations. Right now you’re 25 years old. Okay, you’re doing a job that you hate maybe you’re making good money maybe you’re not but you’re in a job that you hate every single day.

And today, you start working on a side hustle project learning and getting educated about what you want to do, how to build a business around it, how to go out there and you know get paid for it starting to whatever you know whatever that thing is getting the education that you need to go pursue that and you work on it for a couple hours a day or even one hour a day and then on the weekends and you start studying for the next 1,2,3,4,5 years, five years predicted five years down the road. It’s not going to take you that long. If not, if you’re active and passionate about it. I’m thinking like a year or two, but let’s just pretend it’s five years when you wake up and you’re 30 scenario number one is you’ve done that and now at 30, years old, you are full fledge in doing what you love for the rest of your life and getting paid for it.

18:51

Scenario number two you don’t do that, you still do the same thing that you do every single day you hate your life you hate your job, you get up and you just do stuff you hate and when you’re 30 years old. You’ve got what maybe a few thousand more dollars in the bank that you probably believe anyway because probably drinking your sorrows away yeah I know I’m being harsh, but like, let’s face reality. People that hate their job at their life like they’re not healthy to spend a lot of the times of bars getting drunk.

19:14

Listen, I love my life. I can’t remember the last time I got like wasted, wasted drunk. I’m not here to bash on drinking alcohol or anything like that, but I’m not wasting my life away doing stuff spending money on stuff that doesn’t matter. Why? I actually like what I do with my life people that like what they do. People that live a healthy lifestyle and actively doing what they love on a daily basis. They live longer. They’re, they’re happier. They’re healthier. These are proven facts and statistics.

19:39

Please, please, please, I beg you go do what you love. If you don’t think it’s possible, send me a DM on Instagram and I will show you how it is possible. I’m being very, very serious about that. Tell me your idea, try to keep it short. Don’t give you like a 72 page paper on it. Send me a DM and be like, Yo, I want to do this; I don’t understand how. I’ll help you! I’m serious.

20:00

I get to wake up every single day and I get to go do what I love to do and as the greatest thing in the entire world.

20:08

I get to make podcast episodes I get to help clients make more money. I get to build businesses. I get to you know go out and travel and speak and make the world a better place. And it wasn’t always that way. I used to beg feed. Every night I used to work night shift. Please work 18 hours a day. I used to hate my life. I used to hate what I did. Didn’t make me a bad person. It just means I hated my life and I hated what I had to do. I wasn’t living fulfilled. I wasn’t actually going and doing. Has nothing to do with amount of money you make, has nothing to do with you know financial success. That’s what I’m talking about. I’m talking about actually doing what you love screw money. It doesn’t mean that’s not what I’m talking about here at all.

20:40

I’ve talking about what you like to do on a daily basis. And I wouldn’t change my life. I did find what I wanted to do and I went out and created it, and I will never answer to a boss again involuntarily. I’m not saying I’ll never get a job again. I can’t imagine I would, but maybe someday, some reason I might, but no, I have the ability to go do what I love to do because I created that. Because I went out and learn it doesn’t happen overnight, but it can happen. So please, please, please, please, please, I see way too many people that are doing what they hate on a daily basis when they don’t have to be because there’s so much opportunity out there and the market wants you. People are looking for people that are passionate about what they’re doing and they will pay big dollars for people that are passionate about it because then they know they’re not going to leave. They know they’re going to stick around and they can build around that.

21:27

Alright, alright. That was a little bit of a longer episode I feel like I’ve been saying that a lot. Maybe I’ll just send the link, but I just am so passionate about this and I want you to go do this and I will do whatever I can to make this happen. And to have everybody that I come in contact with hear this message that’s my why!

My ‘why’ is to inspire people to break free and find their purpose know truth and define their own destiny or better said or differently said, do what you love so that you fall in love with life and make the world a better place. That is what it is all about alright.

22:10

I hope you learned something from this episode. I hope I’ve you inspired you to go out and take action where you need to stop caring about other people’s opinions and do you and what you want to do and be respectful in the process. As always, hustle-hustle. God bless. Do not be afraid to think different. Thinking different will get you the life that you want to live. Thinking different will allow you to do what you love. And when everybody else mocks you and laughs at you, go; ‘nope, I’m on a mission,’ laser-focused block them ignore the haters stay focused. I love you all and I will see you on the next episode.

Take it easy Fam, peace.
