In today’s episode, we are on day four of the 6-day mini-series, “Design Your Dream Life” where I will tell you the skills you need to have or to go out and acquire in order to design and create the life that you desire.

So let’s dive in.

00:23  You are now entering a new paradigm.

00:27  So, here’s my issue. I wanted to find the answers to life’s biggest questions. Things like, how do I become happy and live with purpose? How do I make more money doing what I love, and what does it mean to be truly successful in all areas of life? 01:08  What’s up guys? Welcome back to another episode of The Think Different Theory. My name is Josh Forti and we are on episode number 36. Welcome back to the program. We’re on episode four of the mini-series, which is all about “Designing your dream life”, I should really call it like, “Designing and creating”, cause I’m giving you actionable steps, and I’m trying to do it in such a way that this applies to pretty much anyone. I’m giving you the framework of what it’s going to take. And a lot of people will listen to this and there’ll be like, “Well, like yeah it was good information, but it wasn’t applicable or like there wasn’t actionable steps” Yes, there is, like here…, and what I’ve given you over the last three days, and especially today, like if you just go and take action with it, you’re going to see absolutely incredible results.

02:04   And what’s funny to me is, that so few people today, and this blows my mind, so few people today are actually action takers, and actually go and do anything. And, even if they were handed an exact script and like told exactly where their leads were, or exactly what to do step by step, they wouldn’t do it, but most people like, have the framework, like they have the know-how of what to do, and I’m laying it out here for you, but most of you will never actually go out and take action with this. And it saddens me that that’s the case, but the fact of the matter is, like maybe 80% of you will probably not even listen to the whole episode, 20% of you will, of those 20% that actually followed through with the whole episode, only 20% of those 20% will actually take any form of action.

03:01   And, the 20% of those 20% will actually stick through and follow through long enough to see results. So, you know, we’re averaging 500 plus downloads on a podcast episode. So, what’s that? 80% of that, It’s 400 people. So 400 people that listen to this, will never take any form of action, only 100 will. Not even that many. Right? And of those hundred that like actually go and take some form of action, only 20 of them will actually go and apply for longer than a day, or do any significant action. And only of those 20, only what? Four or five will actually go through and be able to see any form of substantial results from those. And of those, only one of them will actually go out and change their life.

03:46   So be that person that’s actually going to go out and change their life with this, because science and the law of human nature is against it, unfortunately, but everything’s here that you need. And I cannot stress to you enough that you have to believe this. If you believe that this can happen and work for you, it will work, but you just have to go apply, and believe that actually going through and following through with this is going to work, and that it will happen. So, that’s my little rant of the day for you to kind of go take action with this. But, specifically today, I want to talk to you about learning the skills that are required to actually go out now and design your dream life, and to create your dream life. So, like I said, we’re on episode slash day four of the six day series.

04:33   In the first episode we talked about belief, why belief is so important, and why you should believe it, and why it’s possible, because if you don’t understand why it’s possible, it’s kind of hard to go create. So we talked about the society shifts, and we talked about how social media and the Internet has changed the game. And we talked about how you have everything that you need inside you. Day number two, we talked about clarity, and we talked about vision and focus on like the next step and trying new things, and why it’s so important to try new things, and have the clarity and the vision of both the clarity on the vision, and the clarity on the immediate. And then, in the last episode, in day number three, episode number three of this, we talked about, killing the old person that you are currently, and becoming the new person that you need to become.

05:19  And, first identifying who you are now. Then going in, designing your dream life and figuring out what that looks like, and then designing the person that actually fits that dream life and becoming that person, killing the old person and becoming the new in that evolutionary process that you have to go through, which is true at a scientific level, and which I think is just fantastic. So we talked about all those things. And so now, I want to talk about the skills that you have to learn, and that you have to go out and acquire, in order to design this life that you ultimately want to live. And see, most of us, at least I know this is true for me, most people listening to this, you probably don’t have the skills right now that you need to in order to go create your dream life.

06:01   You probably don’t possess them right now. I didn’t when I got started. I knew nothing about the Internet. I knew nothing about Instagram, Facebook, marketing funnels, Facebook ads, making money, sales funnels, I knew nothing, so I had to go and learn them, but with so much information on the Internet, and with so many people claiming to have the next big thing, and the fastest way to make money, and the…, you know, the best way to do this, or the best way to do that, you go, “Oh man, like, there’s just so much out there. How do you even know where to start? How do you even know, like, where to put your time, your focus, what to learn, or like, where do you even begin, how do you know it’s going to work?” And those are the questions that I had for myself, and it’s the question that I hear a lot.

06:45  It’s like, “What do I do?” And so I want to show you how to pick what to do, what to focus on, and then show you how to actually go and do that. Let me tell you a quick story here. Once upon a time, there was a kid, and he was, I don’t know, let’s say he’s 18 years old. Alright? And, he would go down to the basketball court every day, and he would recognize that there was tons and tons of kids on this basketball court that wanted to learn how to play basketball. And, this was a nice neighborhood. Alright? Their parents, they had money to spend, but they all sucked at basketball. And he was like, “Man, I gotta suck at basketball too. If I got really good at basketball, then I could teach everybody else how to be really good at basketball. And then I could make a bunch of money by selling them, you know, like services and coaching them how to become a better basketball player”

07:47  And so what did he do? He went out and he learned how to become a better basketball player. He went and bought a course or got mentorship, or figured out how to shoot the basketball better, and actually become a talented basketball player. And, he studied for the next three or four months. Put his head down and practiced every single day and became this great basketball player within three or four months of practicing. And then he went back, and he was like, “Hey guys. I’ll teach you how to shoot” And as he was learning, now he started teaching other people what he was learning, and he charged them $10 per lesson, and there was 10 people that he taught. And so he made $100 per lesson that he did.

08:29   He did one lesson a day and did it five days a week, so he started making 500 bucks a week, just by teaching people how to go and shoot a basketball better. Now, you might be thinking, “Okay Josh, like, what does this story have to do with me designing my dream life?” Let me break this down, because there’s three very important important parts of this story that apply to your life directly right now. So when you’ve gone and you’ve created your dream life, or you’ve outlined your dream life, I should say. You’ve gone, “Okay, here’s where I currently am as a human. Here’s the life that I want to live, and here’s the person that I need to go in order to become that” One of the things in becoming the new person, is learning a new skill set, and becoming good at something that you currently right now are probably not good at.

09:15  So, in this particular case, that was basketball for this kid. And so, once you’ve identified like, “Okay, I need to learn a new skill set”, now the question becomes, like, “Okay, well. What skill set do I learn? Like, what do I do? What do I want to do? What skills do I learn? Do I learn Facebook ads, or do I learn photography, or do I learn writing, or do I learn sales, or do I learn computer programming? Or do I learn like, what is it that I learn?” And, what’s interesting is, that no matter what industry that you get started with, no matter what business you want to create, no matter what life that you want to live, it all comes down to a very simple formula to figure out what skills you ultimately need to learn, so that you can go and create this life around your passion.

10:01   And I really want to drill this into your head. I want you to understand. No matter what you are passionate about, it doesn’t matter what, you can build a business around that, and you can help people by teaching them how to learn more about whatever it is that you’re passionate about. For me, it’s business and online marketing, and social media, like, those are the things that I’m passionate about, and mindset. Those are the things I’m passionate about, so those are the things that I teach people, and I make a living off of it. Yours could be dogs, or photography, or marketing, or whatever it is. Okay? The formula is the same for all of them. And, in this story, I break down, like, this covers all three aspects of that. The first thing that you have to do, is you always have to start with a niche, because if you don’t start with a niche, it’s hard to spot like patterns, and it’s hard to like really know what it is that you need to do, and it’s hard to really identify problem number two or step number two, which we’re going to get to in just a second.

11:01   So like you just can’t take the whole world, and recognize patterns. You can’t be like, anyone, because then the whole world is your niche, and it’s really hard to spot patterns in the whole entire world. So you always have to start with a niche, or a category, a group of people or an industry that you want to serve. So in this story, this particular boy, this 17, 18 year old kid, recognized that he wanted to serve the other kids on the basketball court. That was his niche. So for you, you’ve got to determine who it is that you want to serve. First and foremost, you always got to start there, because if you don’t have that determined, it’s going to be impossible to know what it is that you need to learn and do, and I’m going to get to why here in just a second.

11:50   So, the first thing that you have to write down is, “Who is it that I’m serving?” Alright? So like, basketball players, photographers, small business owners, teenage kids, like whatever that is, whoever it is that you’re serving, you got to start that niche. And a niche is simply any form of similarly categorized or grouped people, or objects, or things. Alright? That’s a niche. It doesn’t have to be like an industry necessarily, but it doesn’t have to be like, just real estate agents. It could be that. That is a niche, but it could also be like business owners making more than $20,000 a month in any industry. That’s also a niche, right? So like, whatever that niche is, you just have to identify it, but for the sake of this story, this particular niche was the kids on this basketball court that I wanted to learn basketball.

12:37  That was the niche that this kid ultimately wanted to serve. And then the next thing that you have to ask yourself is, “What problem is the niche currently facing that I want to help solve?” Now this sounds very basic, but 90%, actually that’s a completely made up number, I have no idea. A large majority of people that I see, that are trying to build businesses, or make money, or do any of those things, are like, have no idea what problem that they’re solving. And all of business is just solving problems. Amazon is solving problems, Coca Cola is solving problems. Google is solving problems. Nike is solving problems. Toyota, Chevy, they’re solving problems. What’s the problem? The problem is, “I don’t have a car. Oh, I have a car. Good. I want to go from point A to point B. Boom, I’ve got a car for that”.  There’s a solution, right?

13:29   The problem is, “I want a delicious sugary drink to go with my fast food”. Oh, Coca Cola says, “I’ve got the answer”. The problem is, “I want a really wide selection of a bunch of different things and I want it delivered fast to my house”, Amazon says, “We’ve got the largest selection of everything and we deliver it next day”. Right? All business is, is just solving problems. Every single business just solves problems. So first you identify, what niche or who it is that you’re trying to serve, and then you go, “What problem is it that I want to solve?” So going back to our story and going back to scenario, he’s like, “Well, the problem is, they all suck at basketball”.  That’s the problem. And once you identify the problem, and you know, digging down that a little bit further, we…, you know, kind of break it down to like two sub-categories.

14:16  Where is it that your niche, and the people in your niche are currently at? And where is it that they want to be? Alright. Like, that’s the problem. Like, problem lies…, here’s where they are, where do they want to be? And then, you’ve got to go and learn that skill. And that’s step number three; provide the solution. And for you, you’ve got to go and learn the skill that will allow them to go and get that solution. And so, all you have to ask yourself is, “Who is it that I want to serve? What am I passionate about? What do I want to do with my life? What does my dream life look like?” Right? Let’s say your dream life is to go out, and, I don’t know, work with horses all day long, and so you sit down and you go, “Okay, what’s my niche?”

15:00   My Niche is, horse trainers that, I don’t know, I’m not familiar…, I’m really just making this stuff up on the spot here to show you that it can be applied to any category. Like, my niche is horse trainers that are just getting started. And, the problem that they have is they don’t know how to find horses to actually work with and train. So you go and figure out, and learn how to do that, and then you go and teach them how to do it. And Voila, now you have niche problem solution. Those are the three categories. You learn how to do the solution, and you teach it to other people, and now you have the life that you want to live around that, and you get to be in that environment, and people will pay you big bucks for that. It’s that simple.

15:47   And when you identify the problem, you simply look at two parts, “Where is my audience? The people that I want to serve, where are they currently at? And where do they want to be?” Whatever skill is required to get them from where they are at to where they want to be, that’s what you need to learn. And this is true in absolutely any category of business. Those are the skills that you need to learn, for business. That’s the process. And once you learn that, it becomes incredibly freeing because now you get to be paid to do what you love to do on a daily basis. So that’s the first set of skills that we’re talking about, is we’re talking about business skills from a business aspect. Hopefully that makes sense. I don’t know how to make any money with it”.

16:40   Go and learn that skill that is going to take whoever it is that you want to serve from their current situation to their desired situation, and go sell it to them. And now you have a business. Alright? So that’s the first type of skills. The second type of skills that I want to talk to you about is, the skills that you personally want to learn for your own personal gain or life. And, you know, it’s very interesting because you apply the same principles and tactics to this area as well. And then you just go do it. And what I mean by that is, if you’re applying this to your own life, so let’s say for example, you’re like, “Man, part of my dream life is to go and travel more. Part of my dream life is to go run a marathon. Part of my dream life is to go be a surfer”. Alright? You apply the same exact principles using yourself as your niche. So you’re like, “Alright, I’m the niche. I am like the person that I ultimately want to serve. My current situation is blank. My desired situation is blank. What do I have to do to get there? So for me, one of the things that I want to do is, I want to learn how to surf, so I’m the niche. My current situation is. I don’t know how to surf. My desired situation is, I want to get really good at surfing. So, what is it that I have to go learn? How to go and surf. And so many people I see, and it’s actually mind blowing when you actually sit down and like, watch people’s actions.

18:20  They go and they learn things, and they research things, and they consume content that has absolutely nothing to do with their goals. And I’m like, “Do you not want to live your dream life?” Like, there’ll be people that are sitting there watching Instagram videos, or YouTube videos on, you know, I don’t know how to cut a watermelon better. Or they’ll be like, how to make your cat dance. Or there’ll be…, you know, like stupid stuff that has nothing to do with their dream life. Don’t consume that content. Just because it’s on the internet does not mean you have to watch it. Just because it’s funny, it doesn’t mean you have to consume it. Like, control your time and be very intentional with it. And so, when it comes to skills and you’re like, “What skills do I learn?” From a business perspective, you would identify who it is that you want to work with, that fits into your dream life. You identify the problem that they’re having, which is the current solution or the current place that they’re in, and the desired outcome that they want to have. And then you learn the skill set that gives them that.

19:20   For your own life, you do the same thing. You’re your niche. You ask yourself, “What things do I like? What’s my desired situation and my dream life becoming a good surfer? Where am I currently at? Not a good surfer. So, what do I need to study? How to become a good surfer” Wallaaah! Like, it’s pretty simple stuff, but so many people just never go and apply this. And when you do this to every single area of your life, and you start learning one skill at a time, and you just go take action with it, you’re then going to go out and be able to create this awesome life.

19:54   So like, one of the things that I want to do is, I want to go and I want to see the world. I want to see like, I want to go up to Canada, and see like, the gorgeously beautiful lakes and mountains up there. So, I’m my niche, my current situation is, I’ve never gone and seen those things. I want to go hiking up there. I want to go camping up there. So that’s my desired situation. Go hiking and camping up there, and take really awesome pictures. So what do I need to learn how to do? I need to get in shape and I need to actually go and plan a trip. So that’s my solution. Boom. Go and do that. If there was a skill required there, which for me it’s getting in shape so I can go hiking or whatever, and go on long long endurance hikes, then I need to go learn that skill.

20:44    Same thing for me with surfing. I want to be a surfer, so I gotta go take surfing lessons, or I’ve got to go on YouTube and I gotta find…, you know, figure out how to surf better, or I want to play the piano better. How do I do that? I just literally go and design my life, ask myself these questions, treat myself as my niche, and go and learn it. And then if I want to make money, if I want to have a career, if I want to serve other people, and if I want to involve other people and create something bigger than myself, then I go and I say, “Who is it that I want to serve? What’s the problem that they have? What skill set do I need to learn in order to go and do that?” And guess what, when you’ve gone and you have really designed your dream life, and now as you’re designing the person that can go and live that dream life, you need to learn these skill sets.

21:28   Now you know how to pick the skill sets that you actually need, so that you’re not learning random skills. And, you know, what’s fascinating to me is, I see a lot of people that are online right now, this is probably the biggest thing that I see is, someone’s like, “What skill set should I learn?” And like, people be like, “Facebook ads are the number one skill set to learn in 2019” and that might be so, if you want to do something that involves Facebook ads, but guess what? I’ve never run a Facebook ad in my life. I’ve outsourced them all. I don’t need to learn Facebook ads because that’s not what I want to do. I would rather hire someone else out about it. So for me, I wouldn’t learn that skill, but I see people learning skills all the time, whether it’s Facebook ads, or YouTube, or this, or that, when they don’t need to learn those, because that has nothing to do with their dream life.

22:13   Now, if that does have something to do with your dream life, then go and learn them. That’s awesome. Those are great skills to have, but only learn something, only go do it if it actually is part of your dream life and what it is that you’re trying to create. Don’t get distracted just because somebody else thinks something is cool or awesome. Alright? I hope this helps. I hope this brought clarity to the skill set issue, when you’re like, “What skills do I learn?” It’s very simple. Who do you want to serve? What problem do they have? Learn that skill set and make sure that whoever it is that you’re serving is the type of person that you want to serve in your dream life, and that will allow you to live your dream life. Alright?
