EPISODE TRANSCRIPT:

00   Dear new/beginner entrepreneur, you are about to embark on a journey that you are not yet ready for. Please understand that true entrepreneurship is not a career, it is a lifestyle. The sacrifices you will have to make, most won’t understand, and we’ll probably secretly laugh at, and while Instagram we’ll make it look awesome, don’t be fooled. The first year or two or three or four are going to be hard. Hard as hell. There will be long sleepless nights. There’ll be confusion, frustration, information overload, feelings of overwhelm, inadequacy and defeat. This is normal. There will be days where you want to quit. Every single person has had them. You are not alone. Yes, the first month or two maybe fun and full of energy, but once reality sets in, you will realize that most of the work you need to do is quite boring.

57  It will not be easy. It will be lonely. No one will understand you, and it will not at all be what you expected. You will probably spend every last dollar you have, and then some, and feel like you are loaded rich and bankrupt, both in the same day. You will experience your life’s highest of highs and lowest of lows, oftentimes in the same day. You will look around and see everyone else appear to be killing it. Do not get distracted by this. 99.9% of the people that on there killing it aren’t, and the 1% that are, are working twice as hard as you, and have been doing it for 10 times longer. There will be people that tell you, “Don’t work hard, work smart. Systemize everything and try to work less. Add multiple streams of income.” Do not listen to them. There is a time for systemizing, scaling, working less, and adding multiple strings of income, but right now is not the time.

59   Right now is the time to learn. Work ridiculously hard and try new things. Your best friend in the entire world is focus. Focus will get you to where you want to go faster than anything else. Period. Do not chase money. Do not chase fame. Become obsessed with results. This will be the greatest personal development exercise that you can possibly go through, and if there’s one thing more important than all, it is this; understand that to get where you want to be, you have to kill the old version of you, and create a new one. I’m dead serious. Many start this journey, few actually stay and succeed. Find the few people that support you and get around them, even if that means just getting around them virtually, and cut off everyone else. Everyone. While you may not know what lies ahead, I promise you that this is going to be the most rewarding and fulfilling journey in your entire life that you can possibly take. It is hard, it takes work, but man, it is worth it. Here’s to your new life. Let’s go make the world better.

10  You are now entering a new paradigm. So, here’s my issue. I wanted to find the answers to life’s biggest questions. Things like, how do I become happy and live with purpose? How do I make more money doing what I love, and what does it mean to be truly successful in all areas of life? My name is Josh Forti, @JoshForti on Instagram, and I ask life’s biggest questions and share the answers with you. My goal is to help you find purpose, happiness, and open your mind to new realms of possibility by helping you think differently about everything you do, know, and understand. On this podcast, we think different, we dream bigger, and we live in a world without limits. This is a new paradigm. Welcome to The Think Different Theory.

56  What’s going on guys? Welcome back to another episode of The Think Different Theory. My name is Josh Forti and we’re on episode number 37. Can’t believe that we’ve got that many episodes in already. So excited about this. We’re on episode number five, day five of the “Designing Your Dream Life” mini-series, which means we have this one and one more until we’re done and we’re wrapped up. And, I think so far we’ve gone over a really good amount of information, a really good amount of stuff, in these first four episodes. We talked about why this is possible and why you have to believe it’s possible in order for it to be possible, and how the landscape has changed to make this possible, and that you have everything that you need with inside yourself in order to make that happen. Next, we talked about the importance of clarity in your big picture vision, and also clarity in the immediate, and why you need to try new things, why you need to go out there and test until you find the things that you’re passionate about.

59   And then, we talked about actually going out there and killing the old version of yourself, and becoming the new person, and really getting clear on what your dream life looks like, and the person that you need to become in order to achieve that dream life, and how to actually go and become that person. And then, in the last episode, we dove in and really talked about skill sets, and the skill sets that you’re going to need to learn to create your dream life. And, we talked about, you know, skill sets for business, but then also skill sets for just things that you want to learn how to do, and how to determine which those things are, which skill sets that you need to learn. And in this episode, I want to really talk to you about the hardships and what to expect as you go out and begin designing this life because honestly, it’s not at all going to be what you think it is.

55  And, I really want to kind of give you the kick that you need to get started, but also prep you mentally so that you know what to expect, to kind of know that you’re on the right track. I’ve watched a lot of entrepreneurs begin their journey, and people that are going out and creating their dream life begin their journey. I use the term entrepreneur loosely. I’m not necessarily meaning that you have to even start a business, just that free thinker, that person that chooses to live free. And, the day that I determined that this was going to be me and that I really was free from the strains of the old Josh. And the day that I…, you know, really entered this new chapter into my life of living with freedom. I got a tattoo that says, “Live Free”.

43   And that symbolizes being able to live free in all areas of my life. And, I think it’s really important that you go out and recognize that what you’re doing right now is choosing to live free, choosing to live in the way that you choose to live, designing your dream life and creating that dream life. And, I think it’s very, very important that you recognize that that’s what you’re doing here. But I really want to lay the groundwork here so that you know what lies ahead because I promise you it’s really not going to be what you think it is. So let’s dive into this. Guys, during my entrepreneurship journey, I have run into a lot of people, watched a lot of people start, fail, succeed, drop off, not make it, quit. I’ve almost quit a couple of times myself, probably not actually because it’s not like, who I am, but thought about it.

34   And, I have lived a life that I did not think was going to happen because I had no idea what to expect. And, my opening for this podcast episode was a letter that I wrote, and then I posted on Facebook, and I posted it out on social media, and it’s called, “Dear Entrepreneur.” And, my point with that was to kind of tell new and starting out entrepreneurs what to expect along their journey, and some of the roadblocks that they’re going to experience along the way. And I just want to break that down here today, and kind of let you know, like these things, are gonna happen. And, once you experience these things, you’re going to recognize how real and true and accurate this is, but what you think is about to happen is probably not going to happen. So let’s dive into this a little bit further and discuss this.

25   So, I start off this letter by saying, you know, “Dear new/beginning entrepreneur, or free thinker, whatever you identify as on this journey.” I say, “You are about to embark on a journey that you are not yet ready for.” And this goes right along with, you know, having to kill your old self and put on a new self and become a new person. And as you evolve and as you grow, and as you experience those things, you’re going to continue to evolve and grow as a person as well”. And then I say, “Please understand that true entrepreneurship is not a career, it’s a lifestyle.” Now, I’m talking specifically to entrepreneurs in that specific setting, but what you have to understand is, when you create your dream life, this is not just one area of your life that you’re changing, you’re optimizing everything.

14  You’re optimizing your health, you’re optimizing your relationships, you’re optimizing your personal life, you’re optimizing your career, you’re optimizing your friendships, your relationships, everything about your life, you are going out there and optimizing. And there’s going to be a lot of opposition to that. And when you first get started, yeah, you might have some supporters, but, you know, honestly, most people are not going to understand what it is that you’re doing. And that’s why like, the next line that I have here, is I say, “The sacrifices you will have to make, most won’t understand, and we’ll probably secretly laugh at you. If you knew the amount of people that are going to be laughing at you as you go through this process, you probably wouldn’t start. So just ignore them, and understand that like, this life that you’re about to embark on. This journey that you’re about to choose, or that you have chosen to go down, it’s not normal. It’s not what normal people do.”

10  It’s not like, this is a foreign concept to so many people in the world, to nine to fivers. And maybe your dream life does include a job, right? Maybe your a new life does include, you know, working for someone else. That’s fine. You know, there’s nothing wrong with that. If that’s your dream life, that’s awesome. Go and live that and own it. But in all of the rest of the areas of your life, with discipline and with…, you know, cutting out of things and really becoming that discipline person, and not watching Netflix and TV and…, you know, waking up early, and cutting out people in your life that you need to cut out, people are going to go, “What are you doing?” You know, they’re going to laugh at you. They’re going to go, “This person has no idea, like, you’re going to come running home. Don’t worry.”

56     And I can’t tell you how many times I got laughed out at the beginning of my journey. I literally had people telling me that it’s not possible for me to actually be able to help business owners that…, you know, “Oh, that this entrepreneurship thing was a fad. That you’ll be back to college in no time.” Like, I got told all of those things. And people laughed at me. They mocked me, they made fun of me so many times. That’s normal. Alright? So don’t let that discourage you and understand that this life that you’re about to embark on, is not a normal life, and people are not going to understand you. Now, Instagram is a trap, and while Instagram is going to make it all look awesome, do not be fooled with this, because this life that you’re going to go out and create, people on Instagram want you to think that it’s easy.

44    People on Instagram want you to think entrepreneurship/your dream life is going to be all glamorous and you’re gonna make tons of money, and take pictures by the pool, and it’s all going to be awesome. That’s not how this works. And, you know, there’s this principle of speed, and the…, in my head, I kind of look at it like this; The faster you go, the more uncomfortable you have to become. So, if you’re gonna…, you know, make $1 million in a year, you’re going to be pretty dang uncomfortable. If you make $1 million in five years, it might be able to be more comfortable along the way, right? You might take things a little bit slower. You’re not going to push yourself as hard. So understand that the faster you go out and create this dream life of yours, the faster you go all in, the faster you’re like, “I’m going to do this at all costs” and the faster you go, the more uncomfortable that you’re going to be.

34   The more people are gonna laugh at you. The more people are not going to understand you. So, just know that, and don’t let the Instagram reality of like, “Oh man, I’m not taking pictures and posting on Instagram by the pool. I must not be doing it right.” It’s all crap. They’re selling you a dream that doesn’t actually exist until you’ve worked really, really hard for a very long time. So please understand that. Understand that the first year, or two, or three, depending upon how fast you go, is going to be very, very hard. It’s going to be hard work. In fact, I put, you know, “Hard work is hard as hell.” It’s going to be long, and it’s going to be sleepless nights. You’re going to have to be confused, you’re going to be frustrated, you’re going to have information overload, you’re going to feel overwhelmed, inadequate, you’re gonna feel defeated.

17    This is normal, okay. And you’re like, “Josh, I thought I was trying to create my dream life here.” You are, but guess what? There are growing pains, and the growing pains that you’re going through right here, that confusion, that overwhelm, those sleepless nights, that frustration that you’re going through, is the process of you killing your old self and putting on your new self. That’s the pain that you’re experiencing. Alright? So, as you’re going through this, instead of looking at the pain as a bad thing, and going, “Aah, I just want it to stop.” Understand that that pain is you shedding your old skin. Think of like a snake, when it sheds its skin, you know, it like literally pushes all of its old skin off, and it comes out and gets it’s new skin on. That’s what you’re doing here.

04   You’re killing old parts of your body, and you’re ripping it off, and you’re creating this new identity. That’s what that pain is going to be. And for some of us, it takes six months, others it’s a year, or two years, or three years, you know, we’re constantly evolving and growing as time goes on. And the more transition that you make, the more growth that you have, the more it’s going to hurt. And so, if you’re doing a fundamentally like, transformation of your body and of your life, and you want to do it fast, you’re going to be in so much pain for a while, but that’s because once you push through that, once you get to the top, you’re going to be that person that you ultimately have wanted to become. So understand that the first, you know, the first couple of years, the first year, like it’s going to be…, it’s going to be tough.

52   It’s going to be rough. It’s going to take some time, but, you know, you’re 6 to 18 months away, if you take consistent action towards something, towards a completely changed life. Yes, it will be painful, but it will be so worth it in the end. Alright? Now the first month or two may be fun. Full of energy, right? Learning new things, telling everybody about your goals and your dreams, and what you’re going to do, and all that jazz, and that is pretty normal. A lot of people get excited in the first couple of months. I know I did. I was bragging on my friends. I was going to go be this Internet entrepreneur, all this stuff. But once the reality sets in, like, you have no idea, it’s actually very boring, and hard, some times, and you’re gonna wanna quit. And there are going to be days when like, maybe two or three or four days in a row where you’re like, every single day I’m just, “I want to quit, I want to quit, I want to quit.”

39   That’s normal. Okay. Lots of people do that and have those feelings. I’ve had those feelings so many times, but once again, you’ve got to remember that this is just you shedding that old skin. This is you becoming that new person and evolving as you go. It’s gonna be lonely. No one is going to understand you, and it’s not going to be what you expected, and that’s why it’s so important to get around like minded people. That’s why it’s so important. And I’m gonna talk about that further in a little bit, but like, when you feel lonely, you can’t go to people that don’t understand you, because they’re going to tell you to quit, and you can’t quit. If you’re in on this, you’re in on this, don’t quit. You’ve started this journey. Understand that you got to follow through with it. And that’s why I go to a lot of events like Funnel Hacking Live in different places like that, just to get around like-minded people, because this game is very, very lonely, because people are not going to understand you, and what it is that you’re going through, because it takes effort.

36   You’re becoming the best version of yourself and you’re creating this dream life, and it is painful as you go through that transformation process. You will experience the highest of highs and lowest of lows. And I mean that super literally because you’re going to have days when you feel amazing when you’re going to like, “This is awesome.” Especially in like, eight months, a year, year and a half. You’re going to be like, “Oh my gosh, I made it. This is awesome.” And then the next day you’re gonna wake up and be like, “I don’t know what’s going on with my life. I’m so confused. I don’t know what’s next.” Remember to stay consistent and remember why you started. Alright? Because, you are going to experience those days, and until you learn to control those, until you’ve dealt with them, like, you’re going to have those feelings and that’s normal.

27    But once again, I cannot stress to you enough. This all comes back to the growth that you’re going to go through. Alright? You’re going to see everybody else appear to be killing it. You really are. Especially on Instagram and on social media. You’re going to be like, “Oh man, this person has it. It didn’t take them that long.” They are struggling as well. Instagram and social media is a highlight reel of the high moments of everybody else’s life. Alright? These are distractions, cut them out. I don’t have social media on my phone. I don’t have Instagram. I don’t have Facebook. I don’t have YouTube. I don’t have Twitter. I don’t have Snapchat. I have none of those on my phone. Why? Because it’s simply a distraction and I don’t want to see other people killing it. I just want to stay focused on me and I want to really encourage you to do the same.

15   And remember that focus is going to be your best friend. There’s going to be so many people on the way that are like, “Oh man, you’re on this journey. I’m on this journey too. Try this. Do this. Try this new shiny object. Switch over to this. Switch over to this.” Don’t listen to them. Stay focused on what you want to do and what your building. Go back to, “Who am I serving? What problem do they have? What skill do I need to learn? What do I want to do with my life? What skill do I need to learn how to get there?” And only focus on those. Please, please, please understand that this is so important. Alright? Focus is going to get you to your goals and get you to your dream life faster than anything else, I promise. Alright? Don’t chase money.

57    Don’t chase fame. Just chase your dream life and really become focused on helping people. Really become focused on becoming obsessed with the people that you need to help along the way to live your dream life, because that’s what’s going to ultimately get you that dream life. Alright? This will be the greatest form of personal development that you can possibly go through. Alright? Like, it just will be, because nothing else is going to push you, and develop you, and evolve you, and grow you like this will. The things that you have to go through to become this person that you have to become, is just insane, but once you come out on the other side, stronger and better than ever before, you’re going to look back and go, this is amazing. And understand, and I’ve said this the entire time, that this whole journey is the process of you killing your old self and creating the new one, and it’s so worth it.

55   A lot of people are going to start this. A lot of people are going to drop off. Be one of the few that actually stays and succeeds. Okay? Understand that this is hard. Understand that this is difficult. They’re going to be days when people don’t understand you, okay? They’re going to be days when you’re like, “Oh, like, this isn’t so bad.” And then the next day you’re going to be like, “Oh my gosh, I’m going to quit. I can’t do this anymore.” Take breaks. Pace yourself, but never quit. Go out there and go on vacation when you need to go on vacation, but never quit. Go out there and invest in yourself, and get the mentors that you need, and admit to yourself that you need help and understand that you’ve failed and that you’ve got to continue to evolve and grow, but never quit. Understand this is going to be a hard journey. And, you’re like, “Josh, wooow! I thought that I was designing this dream life.”

46   You are. You are. And it’s going to be so worth it when it’s all done and there, but it’s going to be hard along the way. Stay focused. I do not want to give you a false sense of hope. I don’t want to give you a false reality that’s like, “Oh yeah, just design this dream life, and everything’s going to be hunky dory.” No! The process of changing your mind, the process of evolving into the person that you have to become, the process of being a high-performance person, or a highly successful person, which is who you ultimately are wanting to become right now, that takes work, but it’s so worth it on the other side. I promise you. Alright? If this resonated with you, if you appreciate this episode, please hit me up on Instagram @JoshForti. This is so important to understand, and I beg you to understand it, and know that it’s worth it once you get to the other side, but it does take work.

32   Alright. As always, hustle, hustle, God bless. Do not be afraid to think different, because those of us that think different are going to be the ones that change the world. I’m on a mission to change the world. You’re on a mission to change the world. Even if that world is just your own, or the world of those around you. You can do this. Just stay focused, and it’s just so worth it, guys. I want to hear your success stories. I want to know what you’re going through. Please share your journey. Tell me what you’re going through on Instagram so that I can better get to know you. I love you and I will see you on the next episode. Take it easy, fam. Peace.
